Lifeguard Caught Snoozing on the Job with Her Daughter
A man posted a video Saturday, recorded in Marquette Beach Park in Gary, Ind., that apparently shows a lifeguard boldly — and blissfully — snoozing on the job.
In the video, posted on YouTube, the man approached the lifeguard as she napped soundly on a purple towel beneath the cool shade of her lifeguard chair on the shores of Lake Michigan.
“I just wanted to know why you are laying down on the job?” the man asked.
The lifeguard, rousted from her repose, appeared oblivious to the man’s anger.
“Shouldn’t you be sitting up watching the water?” the man added. “You know you’re posing a hazard to everyone around here?”
The sedate life-saver casually rested her head on her hand.
The man, who said he once worked as a lifeguard himself for the Lake County Parks Department, continued to scold the lifeguard, noting she was even wearing her pants.
“I’ve been involved in several drownings where I had to rescue people,” he said. “I had to take my clothes off in seconds.”
He also reprimanded her for lying down on the sand, and asked whether the perch enabled her to see everybody in the water.
Her response: “Just about.”
But her answer was not good enough for the man.
“Just about? So technically, you cannot see everybody,” he said. “So you need to be up there.”
He fired another fastball, and again the lifeguard swung and missed.
He questioned why her daughter was at her side, even as her husband was in the park.
He warned the guard that he would send the incriminating video to the mayor’s office.
